As a joint JD/MBA student, time is your biggest enemy (along with the inability to clone oneself). However, last year I decided to put law aside and endeavor into my MBA side as a Private Equity Intern for Five Crowns Capital. This internship taught me more than just drafting financial models and formulating projections and gave me the opportunity to interact in meetings with seller-clients and investors. I gained insight into what attracts investors, while building on client needs. I was even able to display my legal skills by introducing possible issues that might arise during transaction processes. Interning with Five Crowns Capital taught me the importance of fostering my knowledge, while maintaining the flexibility and integrity to grow more knowledge. With this understanding, I have been able to excel in my current internship as an In-House Law Clerk with Pacific Premier Bank, Inc. As a Law Clerk, I am constantly drafting contracts and performing entity reviews, which requires both business and legal skills. However, rather than seeing this new endeavor as a challenge, I see it as an opportunity to grow and master a new skill, which will only benefit my career. I hope to one day take these years of growth and progress and apply it as my foundation of skills as a Mergers & Acquisitions attorney. Kasim Idrees, JD/MBA ’16, BS in Finance, President of the Business and Investment Law Society, In-House Law Clerk at Pacific Premier Bank, Inc. #ChapmanMBA #MBAsummer #SummerInternship #MBAintern #TakeBoldSteps

“My three months summer internship with City National Bank enhanced my knowledge and insight into the banking industry. Throughout my internship I created excel-based reports for the Regional Managers to manage and supervise the branch managers’ performances and their projected portfolios. The reports included pivot tables, v-lookups, and other excel functions that we learned in our Business Analytics Class. The most important aspect for me was building good relationships with excellent managers and employees within the financial services industry. Equity Research and Investment Banking are two career paths that I would like to pursue. My internship with City National Bank helped me connect with outstanding professionals, who provided me with a better insight of what it is like to work in this industry.” Bassam Nicolas Helou, MBA '15, from Lebanon, BS in Banking, Corporate, Finance, and Securities Law, Intern at City National Bank in Los Angeles #ChapmanMBA #MBAsummer #SummerInternship #MBAintern #TakeBoldSteps

“My internship, this summer, with NGroup Performance Partners gave me insight into the labor consulting industry as well as the relationship between supply chain activities and labor costs. In cooperation with my supervisor, I created and implemented a software solution for tracking employee productivity, which resulted in significant cost savings for the customer. Additionally, I trained a new employee to operate the software, enabling her to carry out the day-to-day processing of orders. I will leverage the project management skills I learned from nGroup as I pursue my career goal of becoming an operations manager in the chemical industry." "My two and a half months working as a volunteer/intern in India were motivated by the huge influence Indian culture has on international business. I wanted to immerse myself in the culture, learning about the work of an NGO, and have a philanthropic focus away from a traditional office setting. My work focused on teaching sociology, tourism management and giving computer classes. I also established a six-months curriculum, spanning all areas of education that a young Indian adult should be familiar with. It was an impressive time and in combination with my previous international experiences from six months in China as well as several other places, I am convinced it prepared me for challenging jobs in the future - hopefully in Asia."
