We've got a new initiative to keep you posted on the relationships we're developing in the business community. Watch the message from Director Gene Rhee to learn about our new series: Director's Cut #winformation Employer: The Walt Disney Company - Parks & Resorts Industry: Entertainment Location: Anaheim, CA Summary: "The Happiest Place on Earth." As you walk into Disneyland, or any Disney-themed hotel, you get the sense of magic. They do an incredible job of creating that feeling, and maybe an even better job of managing that feeling. I had a chance to talk to an alum who works in corporate communications for Disney. He showed me around "backstage" and even inside the corporate building - you see the dedication to a consistent message and brand. It's a great place to work, but as you can imagine, it's highly competitive. Every employee is called a "cast member" and you either buy into it or you work somewhere else. What I learned more than anything else during my visit is that customer service is an essential part of Disney's culture. Next Steps: If you want to be a part of the magic, there are a couple internships that you can apply for - The Disney College Program application closes in mid-October. Their Professional Internship application closes September 24. For more information, go to disneyinterns.com. Students interested in the Disney College Program will follow the steps below. • Interested students should visit our website at www.disneycollegeprogram.com; the student will click Apply Now, and complete the application • If the application is accepted, the student will receive an email with a link asking the student to take the Web-Based Interview. Please note, all applications are reviewed for candidates with a profile and experience that we believe will make them most successful on our Program. • If the student is successful in the Web-Based Interview, the student will receive an email with an attached link asking them to register for a phone interview. This process allows the student to have the freedom to select the most optimal time in their schedule to participate in our phone interview. • The phone interview is the last stage of the interview process. Remind your students to select a time that they can be in a quiet location and fully focus on their interview. • Students should periodically view their dashboard for updates concerning their application status. Please understand some students will be able to view Offers or Dispositions immediately, while others may take a couple of days or weeks. All students will have a form of communication on their dashboard. ------- Employer: Global Hunter Securities Industry: Financial Services Location: Costa Mesa, CA Summary: I spoke with one of the Managing Directors at Global Hunter Securities (GHS). GHS is a boutique diversified financial services company with multiple offices across the US. They focus on research, sales and trading, and investment banking. They have hired from Chapman in the past - most recently from the MBA population with one intern last year, as well as a full time hire now based in their Chicago office. They value perseverance, tenacity, humility, and a strong desire to learn. "You need to have the 'eye of the tiger' in this game. It's extremely competitive and will only get more competitive. Margins have dropped over the years, with information being more readily available, and technology making some human processes obsolete." His advice was to spend time learning about your passions and to focus on that. "It's easy to tell if this is not 'your thing', and if it's not, then you need to find out what that is." Next Steps: GHS Director of Trading will be on our Financial Services Industry Night panel on Oct 7 in Beckman 401. Also, be on the look out for a Career Trek to GHS in the future. ---- Employer: Ingram Micro Industry: Technology Wholesaler and Distributor Location: Irvine, CA Summary: If you didn't know, Ingram Micro is currently #62 on the Fortune 500 list and they are right in our backyard. #62!!! I met with the Senior Corporate Recruiter at their new headquarters located off Jamboree and the 405 in Irvine. Great new space that has a modern feel to it with adjustable desks, cool meeting rooms, and very trendy decor. As a publicly traded company, there is an ebb and flow to their hiring. Right now, they are slowing down, but plan to ramp up come spring time. If you want to work here, you should be innovative, be able to keep up with a very fast pace, and take initiative. We have had much success in recent years with hiring. Just in this last year we had 7 interns and 2 full time hires. And that's all that we know of - there may be even more! Next Steps: Ingram Micro will be on campus to present later this fall so keep your eye out for that. At this time, it seems most likely that there will be on-campus interviews in the spring for internships and full time positions. Make sure you are on-campus recruiting (OCR) eligible in the system!
