Pat (Wood) Elliott '60 (M.A.'74) and Tom Elliott '60 were married on August 16, 1958 at First Christian Church in Santa Ana, Calif. Their love story according to Pat, “Tom and I met on a blind date arranged my a mutual friend (Phil Sharpe '58). Phil had been a high school friend of Tom in Oklahoma before he moved to Santa Ana. I met Phil at Chapman and when Tom was visiting in OC (while on leave from the Army), Phil arranged for a double date for Tom and I and Phil and his girlfriend to go to Disneyland. That was on July 4, 1957. Tom and I saw each other almost everyday during his leave and as he prepared to leave for his Army duty in Iceland, Tom gave me his Phi Sigma Epsilon fraternity pin from his former college days at Northern State College in Oklahoma. While stationed in Iceland, we wrote each other every day. When Tom came home in January 1958 to visit his parents in Oklahoma, I went to meet his parents as Tom presented me with an engagement ring. When he was discharged from the Army in late July, we were married in August. I continued to complete my education at Chapman while Tom worked and went to Long Beach State at night. When I finished my education in January 1960 and began teaching in Anaheim, Tom enrolled at Chapman full time and graduated in August 1960. Our son, Tim was born in November, 1960 and with the exception of living 4 years in the Sacramento area, we have lived in Orange and have been very proud and active alumni of Chapman." #FlashbackFriday
