Dean's Take: Many see higher education as having a dividing line between the vocationally-focused pre-professional programs and the less focused liberal arts approaches, with the former being rigidly outcome based, and the latter being the last bastion of those who are 'learning to think'. However, shouldn't those who teach towards a professional outcome simply be teaching 'how to think' within that specific context? Regardless of whether we are educating via the purest liberal arts framework, a pre-professional program, or through a blended/balanced approach as we do in the sciences, it is critical that 'learning how to think' is done in a functional fashion that provides enough context for application beyond the college and university. #highered #stem
